Intensive Band Camp Weekend for Brisbane Brass

Brisbane Brass Gears Up for National Championships with Intensive Band Camp

Brisbane, February, 2024 — Brisbane Brass is intensifying preparations for the 2024 Australian National Band Championships, set to take place in Adelaide over the Easter Long Weekend. The association's commitment to excellence was evident in their recent band camp activities, which have been instrumental in fine-tuning their performances for the highly anticipated competition.

The first leg of the band camp took place on February 3 and 4, when Brisbane Brass’s premier ensemble, BB1, engaged in an intensive weekend of rehearsals. The focus of this session was to refine their repertoire and enhance cohesion among the band members. The results of their hard work were palpable, as BB1 demonstrated increased precision and confidence in their performance.

Currently, BB2 is in the midst of their own band camp weekend, benefiting from the expertise of a distinguished lineup of tutors. The camp has provided invaluable instruction and mentorship across various sections:

  • Cornets: Chris Hudson & Ed Kennedy

  • Horns: Ben Messenger

  • Euphoniums / Baritones: Bill Barker

  • Trombones: Nic Thomson

  • Basses: Todd Burke

  • Percussion: Jason Connors

The presence of these acclaimed musicians has been a significant boost for BB2, offering both technical guidance and motivational support. The camp has enabled the band members to refine their individual skills while fostering greater ensemble unity.

Brisbane Brass extends heartfelt thanks to Mansfield State High School and The Gap State High School for their generous support and facilities, which have been crucial in hosting these intensive sessions. The partnership with these educational institutions underscores the community’s role in nurturing and advancing local musical talent.

As Brisbane Brass continues to prepare for the national championships, the dedication and enthusiasm of both BB1 and BB2 are evident. The rigorous training and expert guidance received during the band camps are expected to significantly contribute to their competitive edge at the Australian National Band Championships in Adelaide.
