Celebrating James Blackford

A Journey from BB2 to European Brass Band Championships

From starting out in our B Grade Band in 2011 to shining on the international stage, James Blackford’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

James’s talent and enthusiasm quickly saw him progress from BB2 to our A Grade Band, where his love for brass banding truly took flight. His dedication and skill led him to secure a role with the NSW Police Band during his final year at the Queensland Conservatorium. Not stopping there, James pursued his master’s degree at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester.

His impressive resume includes winning the Royal Over-Seas League’s Annual Music Competition in London, performing the Ellerby Euphonium Concerto with the RNCM Brass Band, and securing a position with the Melbourne Airforce Band.

The latest highlight in James's illustrious career is performing at the European Brass Band Championships in Malmö with the renowned Cory Band—a dream come true for any brass musician.

We are incredibly proud of James and all his remarkable achievements. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him next!
