Brisbane Brass Music Association Triumphs at 2024 National Band Championships
Adelaide, 2024 — The Brisbane Brass Music Association has celebrated an extraordinary weekend at the 2024 Australian National Band Championships in Adelaide, marking their most successful campaign in recent history. The results have left the association, and its supporters, thoroughly exhilarated.
Brisbane Brass's premier ensemble, BB1, directed by Mr. Alan Spence, achieved outstanding results:
3rd Place Overall
Hymn: 2nd Place
Test: 1st Place
Own Choice: 3rd Place
Stage March: 3rd Place
Additionally, BB1 was honored with the Ian Mathers Trophy, awarded for the Highest Aggregate Points, including marching points, reflecting their all-around excellence.
In the B Grade section, BB2, under the direction of Ms. Elena Katahanas, secured:
2nd Place Overall
Champion Australian Open B Grade Brass Band
Own Choice Selection: 2nd Place
Stage March: 3rd Place
The association also shone brightly in the solo sections. Laura Hjortshoj-Haller was crowned Open French Horn Champion with a 1st Place finish, while Liam Reed earned a 3rd Place in the Open Euphonium Section.
“This has been our most successful Nationals campaign in recent years, and we are immensely proud of our members and their dedicated Musical Directors,” said a spokesperson for the Brisbane Brass Music Association. “We extend our congratulations to Brisbane Excelsior Band for their impressive win, and to Townsville Brass for their remarkable performances. The weekend was a fantastic showcase of brass banding in Queensland.”
The association expressed heartfelt thanks to friends, family, and the Queensland Band Association, South Australian Band Association, and the National Band Council of Australia Inc. for their continued support and efforts in promoting banding across the country.
